ABOUT Parque Nacional Villarrica

Volcanoes, woods and lakes, are only some of the things that Villarrica National Park has to offer.

The park has a total extension of more than 60.000 hectares, one part of the park belongs to the city of Pucón which is in the Araucanía Region, while another part is in the city of Panguipulli which is part of the Los Ríos Region.

This park was created in 1940 since then it has been dedicated to the conservation of fauna and flora that inhabits the space designated as a National Park. From peregrine falcons to Darwin’s frog, these are species that have been able to survive thanks to the protection work carried out by the park.

The park it’s the most important natural destination of Pucón, and because of that every year receives thousands of tourists, these visitors often search for the adventure and calm that the 17 trails of this park offer.

Its main trails are: Los Nevados, Volcán Quinquilil, Chile’s trail section Los Venados, and Lagos Andinos, each one with different attractions. Among all the trails, the shortest are Fauna Trail, which can be walked in just 30 minutes, then there is Pichillancahue Trail whose round trip takes approximately 2 and a half hours. Like the latter, there is the path to the Mirador Los Cráteres and Colonia Benavides.

Villarrica National Park has several services and activities suitable for all ages, from trekking on the forest, rivers and volcanoes, to picnic areas, ski and horseback riding. However between all the activities, the views toward the Villarrica, Quetrupillán and Lanín volcanoes are the most wanted by the tourists.

Keep in mind that you need to pay to access the park, these expenses aren’t representative, but it is important that you know them. The price ranges go from $2000 chilean pesos for nationals teenagers, to $3500 for national adults. Foreign adolescents and adults must pay $ 3,500 and $ 7,000 Chilean pesos respectively.

How to get to Villarrica National Park?

Villarrica National Park is 792 kilometers away from Santiago, to visit this place you must first get to Pucón, the closest city to the park. The main land access to this city is through Route 5 and at kupos.cl we take you by bus to Pucón with the best offers and services.

You can also arrive by air, La Araucanía International Airport is the main airway of the Araucanía Region. Once in Pucón you can go to the park through the international road by route 199, which will take you to the Puesco entry. Or you can also go to Palguín Bajo entry, passing through the Termas de Palguin until reaching the Quetrupillán sector.
