Tolhuaca National Park it’s located in the Araucanía Region, 120 kilometers away from Temuco and 663 kilometers away from Santiago. With many waterfalls, lagoons, woods and walking trails this araucano park is famous among the travelers that seek outdoor adventures.
This park is known for the protection of species like the Peregrine falcon, the kodkod, the Pleurodema thaul and the green lizard. However the flora it’s the protagonist of this park, there you can find the wonderful Pehuén, the cypresses of the mountain range and the ulmo.
Of the most emblematic sites the Green Lagoon stands out. As a mirror, you can see in it the reflection of endless trees and vegetation, like the pehuén, this effect recreates a perfect canvas of nature. Meanwhile, Salto del Malleco is a spot of the trail that has the same name, on this trail you can walk bordering the Malleco Lagoon, which is surrounded by a forest full of coigües until you reach the lookout of which is considered the prettiest waterfall of Chile. There are about 49 meters of waterfall from Malleco river and with the descent of the water it forms a canyon of great depth that serves as a mirror for all the vegetation that surrounds it.
This park offers several activities, among them you can find trekking and cycling, this last one is a highly valued activity in the park due to its rocky and steep paths. But the Tolhuaca National Park has activities for everyone, and has camping zones that during the high season costs $14.000 Chilean pesos for the nationals and $20.000 Chilean pesos for the foreigners. During the low season the nationals pay $7.000 Chilean pesos and the foreigners pay $10.000 Chilean pesos.
Throughout the year you can access the Tolhuaca National Park paying a ticket that goes from $2.000 Chilean pesos for teenagers and $3.500 Chilean pesos for nationals adults. Foreign adolescents and adults must pay $ 3,500 and $ 7,000 pesos respectively for the entrance to the park. Children under 12 years of age and adults over 60, national or foreign, are exempt from paying an entry ticket.
How to get to Tolhuaca National Park?
First you need to get to Temuco, capital city of the Araucanía Region which is located 680 kilometers away from Santiago. The main land access to this city is through Route 5 and at kupos.cl we take you by bus to Temuco with the best offers and services.

Once in the city you should approach the town of Victoria, 5 kilometers from there is the Inspector Fernández path, which is the main access to the park. From Curacautín, another nearby town, the park can also be accessed by taking a path that is known as Camino de Curacautín, but this one, after about 34 kilometers, will take you to the Termas de Tolhuaca, another attraction of the park.
Either of the two accesses is rocky and dirt, and they are not paved on either section of the roads. This is the main reason why it is recommended to visit the Tolhuaca National Park during the summer because the climate allows a pleasant journey on these particular and unaltered roads.
