Hot springs, trails and waterfalls, wonders of Araucanía concentrated in one place, the Huerquehue National Park. This nature reserve was founded in 1967, and is located in El Cautín, a province that is part of the Araucanía Region.
The abundant flora gives off different shades of vegetation that adorn the landscape and are reflected on the lake's water. In the 12,000 hectares that make up the park, different fauna inhabit such as Darwin's frog, long-clawed mole mouse, matuasto lizard and the choroy.
The extension of the territory has several trails, including Los Lagos, Los Huerquenes, Ñirrico, Quinchol and San Sebastián, all with different complexity levels. In them you can find picnic or camping areas, and viewpoints towards the Pucón river and the Villarrica volcano.
Beyond the natural wonders that the Huerquehue National Park preserves, archaeological remains have been found on this site, and it provides important information about the lives of local indigenous people. From ceramics to rocky eaves, the articles found have made this park a relevant site for research of the pre-hispanic period of La Araucanía.
How to get to Huerquehue National Park?
The Huerquehue National Park is 817 kilometers away from Santiago, to visit this place you must first get to Pucón. The main land access to this city is through Route 5 and at kupos.cl we take you by bus to Pucón with the best offers and services.
You can also get there by plane, La Araucanía International Airport is the main air access route of the Araucanía Region, it’s located 25 kilometers away from Temuco, capital city of the region.
Once in Temuco, you must take Route 199 for about 140 kilometers, a journey that takes approximately 2 and a half hours. Before reaching Caburgua Lake, take the road to Paillaco, a paved road that will take you to the Huerquehue National Park.
