ABOUT El Tabo

El Tabo is located in the Province of San Antonio in the Valparaíso Region, 117 kilometers away from Santiago, forming part of the route of the poets along with other sectors of the area where an important part of those who left their legacy and promoted national literature lived.

Throughout the year this is a very visited spot, given that its climate with little rain during winter and pleasant temperatures in spring-summer allows you to enjoy the different activities that the area has to offer. In addition, its proximity to the city of Santiago and its natural attractions such as forests and streams help to receive a high number of tourists.

On the coast of the city is Playa la Castilla which is characterized by its calm waters, despite being very rocky on its shores, small pools are created in which children can comfortably bathe. The busiest and most important is Playa Chepica, due to its great extension and easy access, and its waves are moderate and shallow. To the north it is possible to find other beaches such as 7 Reales and El Caleuche.

One kilometer south of El Tabo is El Tabito, which in its beginnings was considered the younger brother of the main beach, being less frequented, making it ideal for a walk where you’ll want to relax from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Las Cruces is also part of the commune where the house of the antipoet Nicanor Parra is located and where the painter Arturo Pacheco Altamirano lived and which has a peaceful bathing area. To the south of this place is the Laguna El Peral Nature Sanctuary, which is a true bird paradise with more than 100 species that inhabit it, including the Black necked Swan that uses the lagoon as a nesting site; Taguas, Siete Colores and Trile. Vegetation abounds around the lagoon and the trails allow you to enter the sanctuary to discover the vestiges of pre-Columbian cultures that lived in the place.

Another natural attraction is the Quebrada de Córdova, which was the first native forest in the country and the oldest. Its preservation is extremely important since the forest in this area has been disappearing due to its lack of tolerance to drought as it is considered that it requires a warm, humid and stable environment, and on the other hand due to the replacement that It has existed of its species for trees such as eucalyptus and pine in order to convert the land into a habitable one and build houses.

In the center of the city, near the beach, there are places of interest and commerce such as the Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Rosario, the House of Culture of El Tabo and La Casona Craft Fair.
