The Atacama Region is known inside and outside Chile for its high tourist demand. Within the region, the Llanos de Challe National Park stands out for its biodiversity and for having beautiful flowers despite being in the desert.

With a desertic landscape that contrasts with the Pacific Ocean coast, Llanos de Challe National Park was founded in 1994 to protect the vegetal formation and the coastal desert of Huasco. This park has more than 45000 hectares, and thanks to its climatic and atmospheric conditions it’s created a unique environment on the continent, that draws the attention of thousands of scientists each year.

The Llanos de Challe National Park preserves more than 200 native species of Chile and 14 of them are endemic, which means that they can only be found in that part of the planet. Currently the park is home to several endangered species like the lion's claw. There are also other varieties of flowers of great beauty and uniqueness like añañucas, patas de guanaco and lilies of the incas.

Wild mammals abound in the territory, and thanks to the conservation work of the reserve, they remain in existence. The guanaco is the most important species in the park, this Chilean mammal attracts attention for its large size and ability to survive in extreme conditions.

Among the activities to be carried out in the Llanos de Challe National Park are sports diving, recreational fishing, boating, environmental education and excursions. The park has picnic and camping areas enabled for tourists, as well as several trained tour guides.
