Conguillío National Park is a nature reserve known for its beautiful landscapes, volcanoes, lakes and lagoons. A place that invites you to connect with nature.
The reserve is located in the Araucanía Region, has more than 60,000 hectares and occupies five communes in total. The reserve was founded in 1950 with the intention of protecting the species that inhabit the area.
Thanks to being located in The Andes, the Conguillío National Park has high mountains and volcanoes. Among the best known are the Llaima volcano, the inactive volcano Sierra Nevada, the hills of Lorca and the Santa Ester Hill. The Llaima volcano is more than 3,000 meters above sea level, and is one of the most active volcanoes in South America. The last two recorded eruptions were in January 2008, and later in April 2009. These last two activities increased the height of the volcano by 70 meters.
Several activities go by the hand of nature and follow from the nature and extent of the park. The trails of: Sierra Nevada, Las Araucarias, Los Carpinteros, Truful Truful, Captrén Lagoon Circuit, Arcoiri Lagoon Circuit, are the best known. All of them have different levels of complexity and accessibility, so there are possibilities for everyone. On the trails you can find activities such as camping, trekking, cycling and recreational fishing, this is usually practiced in Conguillío Lake and in the Green lagoon.
In the surroundings of the park you can find elements of the Mapuche culture. Food is one of the most important cultural manifestations of the place, through it you can see the indigenous past that makes use of all the fruit and vegetables available in the area. A visit to the Conguillío National Park is the perfect excuse to try the apple and wine chicha, a local alcoholic drink and various desserts that are made from blueberries, raspberries, nuts and chestnuts.
How to get to Conguillío National Park?
The Conguillío National Park is located 699 kilometers away from Santiago, and to visit this place you must first reach the city of Temuco, capital of the Araucanía Region.
