ABOUT Puchuncaví

Puchuncaví is a commune that belongs to the Valparaíso Region. The name Puchuncaví derives from the Mapudungun Puchuncahuin, which according to theories can mean “place where festivals abound”, “end of festivals” or “remains of festivals”. Today it is a small region known for being welcoming and ideal for outdoor activities.

Among the places that stand out in Puchuncaví is Playa Luna, known for being the only nudist beach in the entire Chilean territory, this place attracts the attention of nationals and foreigners during the summer season, because during winter only a few would dare to shed their clothes on the shores of the Pacific Ocean. The beach has an interesting history, since at first the nudist beach of Valparaíso was the Cau-Cau, but this was invaded by real estate and hotel constructions at the beginning of the 20th century, which prevented the continuation of the practice. After that, the Chilean nudists organized themselves and determined that the bathing area located between Horcón and Maitencillo was the ideal place to resume the community's nudist practices. However, the activities could not be carried out until 2001, when the proposal was approved by law.

But in Puchuncaví there are recreational spaces for everyone, among them we find Quirilluca Beach, a beautiful beach with clear sand ideal for camping, diving and watching the more than 8,000 birds that take refuge on the beach annually, this is the preferred resort for families seeking tranquility and rest. The particularities of this beach have led to environmental proposals to preserve the wide range of fauna that make it up, such as foxes, sea lions and otters. Undoubtedly, the environmental wealth of the small commune has promoted tourism to be the main economic activity in the region.

In the surroundings of Puchuncaví you can also find what was one of the terminals of the Inca Trail, an extensive stone path that linked the center of Chile with the Inca Empire. Puchuncaví is undoubtedly a Chilean destination that offers entertainment outdoors and on the beach, at the same time that you can find gastronomic variety, among which the fried pippin and the paila marina stand out.
