The name of this park honors Vicente Pérez Rosales, a Chilean man from the XIX century that stays in history for his outstanding achievements as writer, miner, statistician and traveler. This famous character of Chilean history was the precursor of the colonization of the territory that today makes the Llanquihue Province in Los Lagos Region.

Currently the entrance to the park has a general cost of $ 1,500 Chilean pesos per adult, while access is free for children under 12 and the elderly. Until 2019 the Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park had two camping areas known as Playa Petrohué and Camping Puerto Oscuro.
