In 1834 the Deputy of the Province, Antonio Rosales, proposed founding a city on the limits of his ranch called "Quechereguas"; After a few months he obtained the presidential approval of the then President José Joaquín Prieto Villa (1783-1854), and named the city “Villa de Molina” in honor of the wise Jesuit Juan Ignacio Molina, who contributed to the study of science in Chile.
