Lago Ranco is a commune belonging to the Province of Ranco in the Los Ríos Region. It is located 58km from La Unión and 110 km from Valdivia.
This commune was founded in 1941 and owes its name to the lake with the same name, which in the Mapudungun language translates as “water with waves”.
Lago Ranco's climate is classified as warm and temperate, with a great deal of rain, even in the driest months of the year. The temperature varies between 3 °C and 25 °C, being during the months of December and February the hottest time of the year.
Its surroundings are full of endemic species of animals and beautiful flora, providing the most wonderful landscapes.
Most of the population lives in rural areas, therefore its main economic activities are agriculture, services and tourism. The Lago Ranco commune has great tourist potential, an economic activity that is under development and with great growth capacity, since the commune is located within the Lago Ranco basin, which is part of the Andean Lacustrine Tourist Zone. This together with the great scenic beauty that it has along with its natural attractions, in addition to the history and cultural identity that the commune has.
